When to use 112
Call 112 when you need any emergency service and are unsure which one. It is free, works without a SIM card, and connects to operators who handle English. State your location first, then what happened.
If you don't speak Polish
- 112 operators speak English and can conference a translator.
- For police, you may request an English-speaking officer for a follow-up; not always available immediately.
- Hospitals with emergency departments (SOR — Szpitalny Oddział Ratunkowy) accept walk-in emergencies regardless of insurance status.
Useful non-emergency
- City guard (Straż Miejska): 986 — noise, minor public-order issues.
- Road assistance: your insurance or a private tow (holownik).
- Poison control: 999 (ask for the toxicology centre / ośrodek toksykologiczny).
Save these
Add 112 to your phone contacts. If travelling with children, teach them 112.
